This Friday, Twitch confirmed that their users’ passwords were not exposed after the major data breach on October 6., after their platform was hacked.
“Twitch passwords have not been exposed,” the platform said in an update to its website about the security incident. “Too we are sure the systems storing the Twitch login credentials were not accessed, which are encrypted with bcrypt, and neither are full credit card numbers or bank information. “
After reviewing the information in the exposed files, Twitch says the data breach “only affected a small fraction of users and the impact on the customer is minimal”. The leaked information mainly contained source code deposit documents and a subset of payment details for streamers.

Previously, the platform had reported that someone was able to access its servers due to a configuration change error, after which it fixed the problem and took measures to secure its systems.
“We take our responsibility to protect data very seriously,” Twitch wrote. “We have taken steps to further ensure our service and we apologize to our community.”.
