It is a true classic, and every time it is having more prominence. The original Land Rover Defender is becoming the target of electric conversions in recent months. This time, Twisted have presented their e-Defender with the power of a V8 engine.
The conversion of the market to electric cars has opened the door wide to restomod, the transformations of classic cars into zero-emission models so that they can continue on the market and circulating on the roads. A business that is very special and exquisite, because not all customers have access to them.
It is the case of Twisted e-Defender. A conversion specialist based in Yorkshire, UK, has come up with a new proposal on the classic Land Rover Defender in its 90, 110 and 130 versions, although this one specifically is about the pick-up variant. Aesthetically retains all its most original essence, but underneath it is completely new. There is no change that suggests that the traditional Land Rover model has become a true electric model.
Twisted e-Defender, a suggestive classic and electric pick-up
The team at Twisted Automotive has removed the mechanical innards of the Defender and replaced them with an electric transmission assembly, which is offered in different power levels according to customer specifications. The most basic option has an electric motor with a maximum power of 160 kW -equivalent to 218 hp– and is powered by a battery with a capacity of 60 kWh that provides a maximum autonomy of 340 kilometers. The next level of power scales up to 200 kW –272 hp– but autonomy decreases to 210 kilometers. It is one of the prices to pay for those who prefer power.
In both cases, it is offered with a charger with a maximum power of 22 kW, which allows rrecharge the battery in just under three hours. The conversion also reaches the interior, where the electric Defender adds equipment that is truly unprecedented in this generation, with a manual climate control, an information and entertainment system with a touch screen and a driving mode selector. Even a roll cage for those who want to fully express their qualities.
Because, despite the transformation, what they have not touched are these qualities, conserving the 900 millimeter fording capacity, so the all-important dynamic prowess on the toughest terrain remains original. Twisted points out that he only needs a couple of weeks to complete the transformationbut there is a second problem to get hold of one of these units: its price, starting at 270,000 Euros for those who are interested.
