Trutle Beach is known in the world of video games for being one of the largest peripheral manufacturers on the international scene. Although the company is known, above all, for offering headphones, Turtle Beach has also now decided to make controllers for Xbox and PC.
Currently, Xbox Series X | S has, in addition to its own controllers created by Microsoft, with a wide variety of controllers designed by third parties, such as the Nacon Revolution X, and then we will give you our opinion of the first control of Turtle Beach with our Turtle Beach Recon Controller review.
Turtle Beach Recon Controller Review
Comfort at the helm
The Turtle Beach Recon Controller is a controller designed for the Xbox and PC ecosystem, and that is something we can appreciate the first time we have the controller in our hands. In terms of size, The Recon Controller is very similar to the official Xbox Series X | S controller, albeit with some interesting differences.
The first thing is the coating that the people of Turtle Beach have decided to give to this control on the handles, which not only serves to provide a better grip when playing, but also to avoid excessive sweating and the consequences that it can imply. this in long gaming sessions.
The next is the texturing that the brand has applied to the L and R buttons, being more textured than that seen in the official Xbox controller, which will significantly improve the grip, avoiding suffering any type of slip when using them.
Another interesting aspect to highlight is the weight of the command. The fact of dispensing with battery or batteries makes the controller somewhat lighter than the original, something that some players may be grateful for, but that many others will not be able to convince due to the need to be connected by cable, although yes, this has the generous length of 3 meters.
However, the most noticeable change (separate rear levers) is found in the upper front of the control. The Recon Controller has a sound and settings control panel, with two volume controls at the ends. Although visually it can crash given how clean the original remote is, the truth is that it is something of a differential when using the remote.
Turtle Beach has done a great job with the command, already which has given it a fantastic build quality, moving away from the plastic results that we can see in other controls offered by third parties.
Ideal for Shoters
We have already talked about what the Recon Controller includes externally, and then we will tell you how all this translates into games. To begin with, the first thing we want to highlight is the use of this control panel that Turtle Beach has decided to incorporate.
As we have commented, we will have two buttons at the ends, one to control the volume of our headphones and another to control the microphone. There is no doubt that this is an important step in comfort when adjusting the sound levels, avoiding having to release the control for a moment to configure it through the headphones themselves, and providing an extra sound that is quite noticeable.
However, what is really differential is in the central buttons. This time we have 4 buttons: Superhearing, Mode, Select and Mute, from left to right. The first of them involves the inclusion of its own technology that Turtle Beach has been applying to its headphones, allowing to amplify the sound of aspects such as the footsteps of our adversaries. It is important to note that this technology will be applied to any type of helmet, and that, at least on the days that we have been able to use the remote, it can be differential at certain times.
For their part, the other two buttons, mode and select, will allow us to choose between the four options offered by the Recon Controller, which in turn have four different levels. The first of them is the monitoring of the Micro, which will allow us to listen to ourselves through the headphones, something designed to avoid yelling when we are playing.
The second option that we can choose is the one related to equalization, where we can choose between opting for the default option, or enhancing bass, treble or voices, giving us a very wide control of what and how it is what we are going to listen to.
For its part, the third and fourth option will allow you to configure the rear levers quickly, without the need to enter any type of menu. Precisely these levers are other differential elements that can lead a person to take control of the Recon Controller.
The Pro-Aim function of the right lever will allow us to make use of a kind of “sniper mode” limiting the speed of the movement of our sight, something designed for those players who use this type of weapon, or even for certain moments in which we want to face some enemies at long distances.
Conclusions
The conclusions that we can draw in our Turtle Beach Recon Controller review is that it is a great option for those who play shoters multiplayer more or less seriously. For ergonomic purposes, the controller is fantastic, with a robust finish and in which the small improvements implemented over the original controller work perfectly.
In addition, the inclusion of the control panel and the rear levers represent a differential aspect. The possibility of modifying various hearing options to our liking with the press of a couple of buttons, makes it an option to take into account.
However, the control is not perfect, since it will be necessary to have it connected by cable to be able to use it (although the distance is considerable), and it has a crosshead that, although it follows the design of the Xbox Series X | Yes, it is below this.
