What is it about I’m not going to ask anyone to believe me?
The film is based on an autobiographical fiction by the Mexican author Juan Pablo Villalobos, who earned him the Herralde Novel Award in 2016. The synopsis of the film reads as follows:
“Juan Pablo Villalobos travels with his girlfriend Valentina to study a doctorate in literature in Barcelona. But before leaving Mexico, he becomes involved with a criminal network which inspires him to write the novel of his dreams, while his life takes absurd and sinister turns.
Villalobos is also the author of works such as If we lived in a normal place, I sell you a dog either Party at the Burrowwhich will also be brought to the screen shortly by Manolo Caro.

Villalobos’s character will be in the hands of Dario Yazbek Bernalwhom we remember for his work on the series the house of flowers or the feature film New order. Accompanying him are Natalia Solian (Bonemaker), Ana Castillo (The fantastic case of the Golem), Alexis Ayala (overcome the absence) and Juan Minujin (matrimillas), among others.
The director behind this adaptation is Fernando Frias de la Parradirector of the praised and multi-award-winning I’m not here anymore (2021). Regarding his interest in participating in this new production, the Ariel winner said the following to Variety:
“Following everything that happened with my previous film, which was as wonderful as it was unexpected, I felt a strong need to dismantle preconceptions. This new film comes from a place of freedom and the motivation to challenge conventions in terms of the kind of tones and narrative architectures usually expected from the region I come from. and the regions with which I work”.
In addition, Maria Camila Arias (The Kings of the world) co-writes the script with Frías. On the other hand, the Exile Content and Zeta studios are in charge of producing the feature film. Also listed Nallely Martinez Escamilla (Rome) in the music department; Carlos Claramont (Everybody knows) on the visual effects team; and Pamela Borbolla (looking for Frida) in the art department.
