After five months of decline, car registrations in the Spanish market are finally up (+9.1% in August) and the Toyota Yaris takes advantage of the summer to become the sales leader by surprise. In addition, the MG ZS and the Lynk&Co 01 are the revelation models in the ranking.
At last it seems that the light is seen at the end of the tunnel in the microchip crisis and new car deliveries are accelerating again. After five consecutive months of decline, car sales in Spain recorded a 9.1% increase compared to the same month of the previous year, with 51,907 registered units. The annual accumulated continues to show the convulsive moment that the market is experiencing, with 533,042 registrations so far, which is 9.4% less than in 2021.
The way it affects each brand varies a lot and it shows in a sales ranking with notable fluctuations. In the summer month par excellence the victory has been unexpectedly for the Toyota Yaris which has managed to sell twice as many units as in August 2021. Its good data has not affected the Toyota Yaris Crosswhich has broken into the Top 10 so the Japanese manufacturer has to be satisfied with the results.
There are no surprises in the remaining two places on the podium with the Dacia Sandero and the hyundai tucson occupying a position of honor that is usual in recent times. Some models that are usually in the high positions of the classification have been relegated to much more discreet positions such as the Toyota Corolla (20º), Renault Capture (29th), Toyota C-HR (32nd), SEAT Leon (33rd), SEAT Arona (58th), peugeot 3008 (59th) or Seat Ibiza (80º).
Other models that have particularly shone have been the KIA Xceed (7th), encouraged by the offers it is receiving to make room for the new model restyled although perhaps his good performance has had as a counterpart that the Kia Ceed been out of the Top 100. He has also achieved a great result on MGZS (25th) and the Lynk&Co 01 (42nd).
Among manufacturers it has been Toyota the brand that has dominated the market in August with a good advantage over Kia Y hyundai. All brands within the Top 10 have improved their sales compared to August 2021 except Dacia, which is down 12%. It draws attention that SEAT has dropped to 13th place with 41% less sales than a year ago.
