he Toyota Prius is celebrating its anniversary. This 2020 marks 20 years since the most popular hybrid car appeared on the US market three years after its official launch in 1997. That is why the Japanese manufacturer has created a special edition for the United States.
More than 1.9 million Toyota Prius units have been sold in the United States, so the Toyota Prius 2020 Edition based on the fourth generation of the Japanese hybrid was to be expected.
The changes of the Toyota Prius 2020 Edition are merely aesthetic. It starts from only two chromatic bases in the Supersonic Red and Wind Chill Pearl colors, to which a series of elements painted in black are added.
Thus the 17-inch wheels, the mirror caps, the window frames, the C-pillar, the lower part of the rear bumper and all the exterior logos are painted in black, giving the Prius a somewhat particular touch.
Inside, the black color also extends, with new moldings on the A-pillars, darkened vents and other elements treated in the same color. Also new are the mats with the edition logo and other elements such as the gear lever, also black.
It includes as standard an electrically adjustable seat, a heated steering wheel and an infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in addition to the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. In other words, it will come equipped with pre-collision braking assistant, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, parking assistant, automatic lights or lane change alert.
For the rest, it is exactly the same car, although this time it is limited to the configuration with front-wheel drive and XLE finish. Thus, the Prius 2020 Edition retains the same hybrid architecture with a petrol thermal engine and electric motorization that together offer 122 HP of maximum power and a consumption of 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers.
The Toyota Prius 2020 Edition also has the paradox of being called the Prius 2020 Edition 2021, because in the American market the names of the models are projected in a year. Only 2020 units of this limited edition will be marketed, and all of them for the United States at a price yet to be determined.
