Toyota has established a strategic alliance with Eneos to explore CO2-free hydrogen production and use systems in Woven City, the so-called “city of the future”. The hydrogen refueling station to be installed in the vicinity of Woven City will be used for, among other things, the refueling of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Toyota, one of the great giants of the Japanese automotive industry, continues to work at full capacity on the development of Woven City, the so-called “city of the future”. A place to explore, research and work on new energies and technologies that will be key to the future. The popular car brand has established a strategic alliance related to this project and, more specifically, to hydrogen.
An agreement has been signed collaboration between Toyota and Eneos to explore CO2-free hydrogen production and use systems in Woven City. The prototype city is already under development in Sunoso City, in the Shizuoka perfecture (Japan), which is unapologetically committed to hydrogen. In addition, Woven Planet Holdings, a subsidiary of Toyota, will accelerate efforts to manage logistics at the technical level.
The Woven City Hydrogen Refueling Station
The basic agreement signed between Eneos and Toyota describes the construction and operation of a hydrogen refueling station in the vicinity of Woven City, to produce and supply CO2-free hydrogen both to the city itself and to fuel cell vehicles. An efficient hydrogen supply and demand management system will also be studied and designed.
The new Eneos and Toyota hydrogen refueling station will be ready to start operations before the official opening of Woven City, which is planned for sometime between the years 2024 and 2025 respectively.
Eneos will be responsible for the production of “green hydrogen”. Hydrogen derived from renewable energies, through electrolysers, at the aforementioned station, and will be supplied to Woven City for use in a fixed fuel cell generator that Toyota will install within the city. The hydrogen produced in these facilities will cover the energy needs of users, fuel cell cars and the city itself.
Toyota’s commitment to hydrogen
Toyota is one of the major car manufacturers that has been strongly committed to hydrogen and fuel cell systems. The brand can boast of having in its portfolio one of the most popular hydrogen cars on the market, the Toyota Mirai. The company assures that this collaboration is key to accelerating progress towards achieving a truly carbon-neutral society.
