The Toyota Corolla continues to set milestones generation after generation and set new sales records every year. According to the Japanese firm, what for several years is the best-selling tourism in history has already exceeded the barrier of 50 million units.
The Toyota Corolla continues to set new sales records and since it was launched just under 55 years ago it has already managed to sell more than 50 million units worldwide. A figure that until now had not been reached by any other tourism and that can hardly be matched in the near future.
Reaching 50 million units sold is quite an achievement for the popular compact of the Japanese company, although it was not this figure that has made it the best-selling car in historySince that record was broken many years ago, specifically in 1997, when it reached 22 million units.
If we exclude two-wheelers, in which the absolute record is still more than 100 million units of the Honda Super Cub, a scooter that the Japanese company has been manufacturing uninterruptedly since 1958, the best-selling personal use vehicle in history is the Toyota Corolla and also by far, because by now it has managed to sell more than double its main rivals in this exclusive ranking.
Absolute record
Models like the mythical Ford Model T and Volkswagen Beetle fail to reach the current figure of Toyota’s compact nor combining all its sold units, despite the fact that the German model was several decades in production in many different plants and markets. The original Volkswagen Beetle has to settle for 21 million units sold between 1938 and 2003, to which we could also add the 2 million that were sold from the different generations of the New Beetle. While the legendary Ford Model T were sold 16 million units between 1908 and 1927.
These figures are far from those set by the Toyota Corolla, which in 2016 celebrated its 50th anniversary, by which time it had already sold some 44 million units. It seems like will continue to add millions of units annually for quite some timeAs it currently has a very complete range that includes various bodies, from the usual sedan to the new SUV-style Corolla Cross, with various mechanical offerings depending on the region to which it is directed.
