Year after year, the sky gives us several astronomical events that we can appreciate with the naked eye, and in May of this 2023, it is the turn of the so-called Flower Moon, the name given to the full moon of the month.
Why is it called Flower Moon?
It is known like this because the May moon coincides with the arrival of spring and with it the most colorful and fragrant flowering of the northern hemisphere of the planet takes place; many plants in this month are filled with flowers, partly thanks to the moonlight.
In the same way, it is known that the Native American tribes were the ones who gave it that name, although it is also known as dragon moonaccording to Chinese culture; Hare Moonaccording to the Celtic civilization, and planting moonaccording to the American Cherokees.

Although our natural satellite will reach its full phase today at 5:35 p.m. (GMT), a day before and a day after its beauty can be appreciated with the naked eye, as it already appears round and bright.
Also, with binoculars it will be possible to observe the stars close to the moon, such as the so-called Alpha Librae either zubenelgenubiwhich not only looks like two stars, but is a double star.
Finally, a penumbral lunar eclipse will also take place today, although it will be visible mainly in Asia and Africa.
When will the next Flower Moon occur?
