What’s New on Twitter is a way to help content creators on the social network. Now you can send tips to these people through the social network and without leaving the application.
Twitter seems to be hell-bent on turning its platform into a combination of social media and services. The most recent failed attempt is that of the Fleets and, is that, the social network wanted to copy the format that Instagram adapted so well from Snapchat, but the result was not what they expected and after a few months they decided to pick up the cable and eliminate this feature.
What’s new about Twitter, although it had been rumored for several months, is that you can now send money to the content creators we like the most. Yes, Twitter supports tips. This new addition comes to facilitate the monetization of people who are dedicated to social networks. Of course, Twitter has deviated a bit along the way and also supports payments in Bitcoin.
The general operation of the feature is straightforward. The profiles that support this monetization must activate it, for this what you have to do is go to the profile and edit the information. At the bottom will appear the option of “tips” that in Spanish would be translated as tips, after having activated this the option will appear in the profile.
The tip icon would be next to the button to follow the users of the social network. By clicking on the own icon, a new menu will appear showing a large number of platforms through which money can be sent. Those shown in the Twitter image are: Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, GoFundMe, Patreon, PicPay and Razorpay.
Of course, if you want to send Bitcoin, the platform that will be used is Strike. This payment platform has an application that makes use of the Lightning network, when using this network, anyone with a wallet can add it to the social network to receive or send money. It may not be a majority thing, but Twitter has just joined Bitcoin.
The sending of tips, at least for the moment, is only found available on iOS. Apple teams will be the first to enjoy this new feature. Android terminals will have to wait to be able to send and receive money. We will have to see how the feature evolves to see if content creators see an increase in their income.
