Tim Cook is not happy. The Apple CEO has sent an email to his employees in which he talks about how his last all hands meeting leaked to The Verge, and on how leaks like this end up being frustrating. That same medium has been the one that has been able to access the internal statement, which I will transcribe below.
“Those who leak information have no place here”
Dear team,
Connecting with you at the global employee meeting on Friday was fantastic. There was so much to celebrate, from our new product line to our work on climate change, racial fairness and privacy guided by our values. It was a good opportunity to reflect on all our achievements and discuss what is on our minds.
I am writing to you because many of you are incredibly frustrated after seeing the contents of the meeting leaked to the press. And this happens after a few releases whose most details have also been leaked.
I want you to know that I share your frustration. These opportunities to connect as a team are really important. But they only work if we can trust their content to stay with Apple. I want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to identify leakers. As you know, we do not tolerate the leakage of confidential information, be it details of a product or a meeting. We know that leakers are a small group of people. We also know that those who leak confidential information have no place here.
As we look to the future, I want to thank all of you for all that you have done to make our products a reality, and what you will do to get them into the hands of consumers. Yesterday we released iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and watchOS 8, and Friday will mark the day our new products will be launched worldwide. There is nothing better than that. We will continue to see our contributions to people’s lives, the connections we cherish, and the work we do to make this world a better place.
Thanks,
Tim
Rarely have we seen Cook speak so clearly about the leaks, and one thing is clear: they don’t like anything inside Apple offices. The company must be investing more resources than ever to locate the culprits, and from what is read in the letter it looks like they will receive an immediate dismissal as soon as they are discovered. They warned in 2018, took action inside the factories in March and even sent a legal letter in June.
