Tiktoker encourages the creativity and ingenuity of informal commerce in Mexico and of entrepreneurs.
This alternative to the formal model is largely a reflection of the lack of skilled jobs in Mexico.
The business scheme that the entrepreneurs have managed represents, according to INEGI, almost a quarter of the country’s gross domestic product.
The tiktoker scrappy.pa, who has 1.1 million subscribers on the Chinese social network, has shared a satirical video in which he ends up demonstrating, perhaps unintentionally, that the creativity and ingenuity of informal commerce and entrepreneurs in Mexico are necessary for the economy. The phrase “Mexico does not dominate the world because it does not want” is not free, because it is a clear indicator that, in the face of obstacles, the Mexican always finds a way to achieve his goal; in this case, sell in creative ways.
Informal business has always known how to adapt to new business schemes, adopting those favorable to their needs. This way of overcoming the adversities that not belonging to the formal sector implies, forces those who dedicate themselves to entrepreneurship to constantly have innovative ideas.
The informal business has grown gradually, and that is where entrepreneurs have found a niche to develop professionally, since data from The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) revealed that for every 100 pesos generated in Mexico, the informal business scheme is responsible for 26 percent of this. Finally, after the data thrown, it is shown that they generate an economic value comparable to 19.3 percent of that figure of the country’s GDP. During 2019, the closing figures were valued at 5 billion pesos. Therefore, although involved in controversy, everything seems to indicate that the informal sector of commerce is as important as the formal sector.
Tiktoker shows the creativity of informal commerce and entrepreneurs in Mexico
Perhaps unintentionally the tiktoker scrappy.pa has given a lesson on the importance of informal commerce and entrepreneurs in Mexico, because in his video he shows a little about the creativity framed in street vendors. In this video, he shows how a salesperson with a “shark mind” can achieve anything, by having the solution for all tastes in a single backpack. This sales model has been replicated by vendors in schools, public squares, and even in public transport, something that is criticized by many for the question of paying taxes, but supported by others, for criticism of the current model of contributions.
This is the video shared by the tiktoker, which also already has more than 1.3 million views and almost 300 thousand “likes”:

In the video you can read the phrase “Your friend, the one who sells candy at school”, who shares his own interpretation, perhaps a bit more critical and satirical, on the subject. However, as he exposes everything that is in his backpack, little by little we can understand why the creativity of the Mexican is well known even outside the country. Several of the users even went so far as to share their own experiences in the comments.
Definitely, carrying consommé, nopales or tortillas in your backpack would seem impossible to believe, but in Mexico it is possible. Phrases like “Imagine living in Switzerland and missing out on this wonder” are repeated day after day on social networks, because as Breton mentioned, “Mexico is the most surreal country in the world.”
