The CEO of the application of Chinese origin TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, hinted that Elon Musk and Twitter are carrying out a risky strategy since the tycoon took control of the blue bird social network.
The executive director of the company, which was heavily criticized by the United States (especially in the days of Donald Trump), He spoke of the importance of investing in sufficient human resources to be able to control the security and moderation of the content of the networks.
Shou Zi Chew responded to a question about whether his app, TikTok, would be up and running if, like Twitter, it laid off 50 percent of its human resources.
I hope that day never comes replied Chew in the New Economy Forum organized by Bloomberg in Singapore this Wednesday, November 16.
“The way we are organized is such that we don’t need to cut as much workforce to get the efficiencies we want,” he added.
Chew said TikTok is “adequately” staffed and his company has “tens of thousands of employees” working on content moderation.
“For technology companies, including TikTok, one of the biggest strengths is having reliable and secure teams,” Chew explained. “This is an investment that is worthwhile if the platform is to be, as it is now, a safe place.”
“I shouldn’t have an opinion,” says the CEO of TikTok
The TikTok CEO also said that human resources are key to complement algorithms. For Chew, people design policies for the platform and supplement the algorithms used for video posting. For all social networks, he said it is vital that everything possible be done in that area.
Chew declined to comment on Twitter’s marketing and security strategy under Elon Musk.
“It would not be very fair to comment now where it is taking the company at this time,” he explained, adding that “it is a bit early to comment.”
How Musk fired his Twitter employees
The TikTok CEO’s remarks came around the same time it was reported that Musk had his employees confirm whether or not they wanted to be part of Twitter by clicking on a link he sent them by email.
“Do you want to be part of the new Twitter?” the email said, adding: “Click the link.”
As published this Wednesday The Washington PostIf they did not click on the link by Thursday afternoon, November 3, New York time, they would be considered “resigned.”
“Whatever decision you make, thank you for your efforts to make Twitter successful,” Musk said in the message.
