Bags and packaging are very important at the point of sale.
Luxury brands have already launched measures to prevent theft from their customers.
It is emerging that New York City shoppers are shopping incognito in stores because of crime. It is a case that is being registered with the clients of the iconic luxury brand Tiffany, who are rejecting the blue bags, for other simple ones to avoid being mugged on the streets of the city.
In the world of marketing and in the graphic characteristics that a brand must apply, bags and packaging at the point of sale are among one of these. Since it is an element that you give to the customers of your store and they walk down the street, and it can be the best promotion for other people.
Tiffany customers reject blue bags
Amid a spike in crime, high-end stores on Fifth and Madison avenues are increasingly offering customers nondescript white paper bags to conceal their luxury purchases.
According to local media, the simple bags cover the expensive products they buy that can be targeted by thieves.
“You don’t want to attract attention,” Lavi Rudnick, 38, who works in fashion and had been visiting the Hermès flagship store on Madison Avenue on Friday with his wife, Julie, told US media.
In that story, after spending almost three thousand dollars (57 thousand Mexican pesos) on a bag and a couple of scarves, the couple chose to hide their purchases in a white paper bag.
All these measures is because there is a record of 148 complaints for theft in the previous 28 days until May 14 in the Midtown North compound, where the flagship products of Fifth Avenue are located, such as Tiffany’s, Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
According to the authorities, this report registered an increase of 94 percent compared to two years ago; and 132 complaints in the 19th arrondissement that is home to Madison Avenue flagship Hermès, an increase of 55 percent.
Also, at Tiffany & Co., an employee noted that white bags are available for customers who request them; while another Louis Vuitton saleswoman said the same.
As the measures continue to gain traction, Mayor Adams announced his administration’s plan to combat retail theft, which has skyrocketed 44 percent between 2021 and 2022.
