This year the subscription plan with ads from both Disney Plus and Netflix could arrive.
The first quarter of 2022 has been, for Netflix, one of the most complex after reporting a loss of 200 thousand users.
For its part, Disney Plus registered an increase of eight million new subscribers to its platform.
This year could be the one that brings the Disney Plus and Netflix ad-supported subscription plan, a strategy to attract more users.
It is true that, at the moment, Netflix is the leading platform in the market with its more than 220 million subscribers and despite having lost 200 thousand users for the first time in 10 years.
However, a few days ago, Disney Plus reported an increase of eight million new subscribers to its streaming service, added to what HBO Max recently registered, this in a context in which, as we already mentioned, Netflix begins to lose ground and, in fact, it is estimated that it will lose more subscribers in the coming months.
This would be the plan with Disney Plus ads
Now, the streaming market is changing, to a great extent, with the arrival of more platforms on the market, such as Paramount Plus, Star Plus, among others, which has meant that, in order to reach a greater number of subscribers, new strategies are designed.
One of them is to implement a cheaper subscription plan, but with ads, which even services such as HBO Max and Blim already offer to their users; However, everything indicates that the new Netflix and Disney Plus services will be launched this year.
So far, there is no specific launch date for this Disney Plus plan or the price it will have, although more detailed information is already being handled in this regard.
According to what is reported The Wall Street Journal, Disney Plus ad-supported subscription plan will be severely limitedso they are only taken into account four minutes of commercials for every hour of content.
The competition, in that sense, offers more minutes of ads for every hour of content. To mention an example, Hulu has 7.4 minutes of commercials and Peacock has 5 minutes, while HBO Max offers less than 4 minutes for every hour.
This information, according to what The Wall Street Journal reports, has been revealed by the company itself, which also announced that preschool programming will not always have ads.
What about Netflix?
It seems that, now, users are more open in terms of receiving ads in the content they watch on the network, although, of course, there are those who continue to criticize this type of decision or strategy.
Netflix was one of the companies that refused such a service, but since the number of users it lost in the first quarter of 2022 was revealed, its opinion changed significantly.
This was expressed by the co-CEO of the platform, Reed Hastings, who announced that the idea of launch a cheaper subscription plan:
“Those who have followed Netflix know that I have been against the complexity of advertising and am a big fan of the simplicity of subscription. But as much as I’m a fan of that, I’m more of a fan of consumer choice. And allowing users who would like a lower price and tolerate advertising to get what they want makes a lot of sense.”Hastings mentioned.
A few days ago, it was also revealed that, despite not having an exact date, this would be the year in which the subscription plan with ads from the Los Gatos, California platform would arrive.
In the end, the decision is up to the consumer, but what is clear, on the one hand, is that streaming is changing and so is the user, who is no longer willing to pay so much money.
