This event marked a historic moment for tourism in the northwest region of Mexico, which seeks to be strengthened by the Sea of Cortez Alliance.
What is this festival about and how was it lived? Here we tell you the details of this first Festival of Magic Towns of the Sea of Cortez.
What is the Sea of Cortez Alliance?
The Sea of Cortez Alliance is an initiative made up of the tourist offices of the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit.
The objective of this alliance is to promote, develop and detonate the tourist activity in the states that comprise it. The principles under which these actions are sought are: sustainability, competitiveness and inclusion.
The Festival of Magical Towns of the Sea of Cortez is a project born thanks to the formation of this alliance. In the coming years, the initiative will seek to strengthen their links and catapult their tourist destinations.
How was the Festival of Magic Towns of the Sea of Cortez?
The festival was held in the Magical Town of Todos Santos, on the outskirts of La Paz, Baja California Sur.
During the inauguration, Miguel Torruco, Secretary of Federal Tourism, recalled the efforts that have been made during the current administration to promote tourism in northwestern Mexico. These efforts include projects such as the rehabilitation of the Islas Marías as a tourist destination and the opening of the new Sea of Cortez Aquarium.
Also present were Marina del Pilar Ávila, Governor of Baja California; Alfonso Durazo, Governor of Sonora; Rubén Rocha, Governor of Sinaloa; Victor Manuel Castro, Governor of Baja California Sur. In addition, the secretaries of tourism of the five entities attended.
Throughout the three days of the festival, each of the states had the opportunity to show the portfolio of activities, services and experiences that their Magical Towns offer travelers. This was done through pavilions installed in the central square of Todos Santos. There, visitors were able to visit exhibitions, cultural and gastronomic samples of each destination.
First it was the turn of Baja California, presenting the best of Tecate. Later it was the turn of Sonora, with the attractions of Álamos and Magdalena de Kino. The next day Sinaloa presented itself with the offer of Cosalá, El Fuerte, El Rosario and Mocorito. Also Nayarit, presenting Compostela, Jala, Mexcaltitán and Sayulita. The last day was the turn of Baja California Sur, who showed off the treasures of Santa Rosalía, Loreto and Todos Santos.
In addition, the new Magical Towns of each state were presented to the media, as well as their characteristics and tourist offer.
The Festival of Magic Towns of the Sea of Cortez will be a traveling annual event. Every year it will be held in one of the Magical Towns of the Sea of Cortez Alliance.
At the end of this edition, it was announced that the venue chosen for 2024 is Ures, the new Magical Town of Sonora.
