Halo is a milestone in the history of video games, after more than two decades of the first title of the saga. This science fiction game has been developed by Bungie Studios and focuses on an interstellar war between humans and an alliance of aliens known as the Covenant.
Of course, fans can remember some of Master Chief John-117’s experiences while overcoming humanity’s most dangerous missions. And, thanks to its first-person perspective, Halo has positioned itself as one of the main references for the shooter genre in the world, becoming one of the most successful and popular franchises. And it is not for less, since the video game proposal has been innovative enough to continue capturing the public’s attention for years.
And, although a lot has happened since we last heard anything about the shooter and it seems that all the details of the game have been laid bare, there have been times when we can still hear some relevant or funny Halo stories. circulating on internet forums.
How checkpoints work, a constant problem for Halo players
As is known, one of the main challenges that players have encountered in the first installments of Halo is that the control point system is somewhat irregular. What do we mean by this? In normal, these points work in a quite simple way: the player in question crosses a certain threshold within the same level, however, if he dies after exiting it, he respawns in the checkpoint area. Apparently it should not have any problem, but the reality is that this has given way to some irritating situations. An example of this was when a Halo 3 player got stuck in a sort of endless loop between checkpoints after boarding a Covenant ship that didn’t match the course. And just like the previous player, another fan is in a similar situation.
To show this, in his Reddit account, a user named PugOverload has released a Halo 3 gameplay sequence. In it we can see how he drives a warthog off a cliff, however, when the player is about to die, a checkpoint is registered. In this way, the game reloaded the player at the checkpoint just before the player’s death. So, one consequence of crossing the checkpoint on a cliff is that you continuously respawn and die over and over and over again.
As you can see, the annoying thing about this loop is that the player would have to reset the game since it is the only way to get out of it. However, to fix this problem, Bungie had taken care to include a solution that would prevent this infinite respawns error from repeating after his death. Supposedly, the game would have to reload the player at the checkpoint before they were killed, but far from being the correct answer to this annoying bug, it would mean the player would have to die multiple times for the game to finally recognize the loop.
Considering that Halo is one of the biggest shooters in the industry since its release, it’s strange that problems like this still exist in the series. But, curiously, not only does it persist in previous installments, but in some more recent titles (such as Halo 5 or Halo Inifinite), players have also faced this problem on numerous occasions.
It is possible that due to the design of the game it is a very difficult error to solve, especially since many of the control points are located next to cliffs or other areas dangerous enough for the players. In any case, we would have to wait if Bungie can get to fix it in the future. Especially since in the near future there will be other content available for Halo Infinite, among which new maps could be found. Perhaps this is the opportunity for the developers to facilitate access to some control points and avoid such an annoying loop for their fans.
