Recently, Xiaomi was added to the investor blacklist by the administration of President Trump, accused by the US government of allegedly having military affiliations with China.
The Pentagon accuses Xiaomi of collaborating with the Chinese army and, although no evidence has been presented, the veto signed by President Trump establishes that the Xiaomi company is prohibited from receiving investments from any US company.
Now, Xiaomi has responded to the accusation with a post addressed to Xiaomi friends and fans that reads as follows:
The company has complied with the law and has operated in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations of the jurisdictions in its business. The company reiterates that it provides products and services for civil and commercial use.
The company confirms that it is not owned, controlled or affiliated with the Chinese armed forces, and is not a ‘Communist Chinese Military Company’ defined in the NDAA. Xiaomi will take the appropriate actions to project the interests of the company and its stakeholders.
It should be noted that the veto of Xiaomi does not follow the same line of the commercial blockade imposed on Huawei by Trump. In the case of Xiaomi, the company was included in the blacklist of Investors and not of businesses as happened with Huawei, therefore, the consequences are different.
In addition, the veto against Xiaomi signed by Trump happens just a few days after his departure from the United States government; Therefore, we cannot anticipate whether the next president of said Country will validate or decide to revoke the veto against Xiaomi.
