Gastly is already one of the Pokemon creepiest, and a new TikTok video demonstrates just how creepy the ghostly creature would be in real life. Players first met Gastly as part of a trio of Ghost Pokémon that inhabited the enchanted Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town in the original Pokémon Red and Blue in 1996, and while there have been many other Ghost Pokémon since then, Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar are well remembered for being the first spooky specters in the Pokémon franchise.
As such, fans have created a lot of art around GastlyHaunter and Gengar and TikTok user therevival recently posted a chilling video detailing a hapless trainer encounter Pokemon with a photorealistic Gastly.
This short but terrifying video is shown from a first-person perspective, as the trainer tries to hide from the Gastly to collect a potion inside a dark and foreboding mansion, only to be ambushed from behind by the hovering wraith. Therevival has gone viral for some of their other Pokémon TikTok videos, which show off equally realistic versions of classic creatures like Metapod, Onyx, and the infamous virtual Pokémon Porygon. However, his recent video for Gastly is especially noteworthy for its eerie found-footage atmosphere and sudden scare at the end.
The Pokémon franchise has been on the upswing for the past two years thanks to the 2021 Pokémon 25th anniversary celebrations and the recent release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus on the Nintendo Switch. The latest installment in the long-running Pokémon series has received much praise for changing Nintendo’s monster-fighting formula in many interesting ways, most notably by allowing players to explore an open-world environment filled with wild Pokémon that can attack them at any moment. Players have already shared terrifying encounters with some of these wild Pokémon, and the reveal trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Version of Zoroark and Zorua had a slight horror-movie feel to it, not unlike Gastly’s video from therevival.
Lavender Town’s trio of ghost Pokemon was spooky enough given its connection to the town’s surprisingly dark history, and therevivial’s new video from Gastly brings this spooky collectible critter to life in an appropriately spooky way. Even the bravest of Pokémon trainers would think twice before attempting to pick up any item found in this Gastly’s haunted domain.
