The NFL star, currently retired, Michael Oher has returned to the news by denouncing that his adoptive parents, the Tuohy family, have lied to him for decades by assuring that he adopted him when in reality he only took over the guardianship rights of his person. Precisely, the original story was made into a movie with the performance of Sandra Bullock.
This Monday, August 14, Oher, who is currently 37 years oldintroduced a legal request in the probate court of Shelby County, Tennessee, to terminate the conservatorship that Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have held over him since 2004.
Michael’s defense claims the Tuohy family tricked him into making them his legal guardians when he was 18assuring him that there was no significant difference between being adopted and delegating guardianship to them.
“Michael trusted the Tuohys and signed where they told him to sign. However, what he signed, and was unknown to Michael until after February 2023, were not adoption papers, or the equivalent of adoption papers”reveals the legal file to which he had access people magazine.
Regarding this event, it is important to remember that the life and case of this athlete was brought to the big screen. Was in 2009, with “A possible dream” (“The blind side”, in English) and with the stellar performance of Sandra Bullock, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy.
WHAT IS THE PLOT OF “A POSSIBLE DREAM”, THE FILM WHICH STARRED SANDRA BULLOCK AND IS INSPIRED BY THE LIFE OF MICHAEL OHER?
The film, starring Sandra Bullock -as Leigh Anne Tuohy- and Quinton Aron -giving life to Michael Oher-premiered in 2009 and It is based on the book “The Blind Side: The Evolution of a Game” by Michael Lewiswhich tells part of the life of the NFL star.
The plot of the dramatic film, like that of the book, centers on the story of Michael, a low-income teenager who has been abandoned by his parentssince his father passed away and his mother suffered from drug addictionand what counts with great physical and sporting potentialin addition to an outstanding overprotective instinct.
The film narrates how Michael finds the Touhy family -he studied at the same school as one of his children- and how they decide to take him in and adopt him when they see that he was a low-income minor, without a fixed roof to sleep in.
As the plot progresses, we are seeing how Oher and his new wealthy family are evolving as people as they learn from each other.until Michael reaches the university stage and ends up becoming a talented football player.
It is worth specifying that in the tape emphasizes that Michael had problems with his academic grades and that he had certain complications to learn, Which is why his parents Leigh Anne and Sean had to be quite supportive of him in that regard, even getting him an academic tutor to prop him up.
THE REASON WHY IT IS SAYS THAT “A POSSIBLE DREAM”, THE FILM STARRING SANDRA BULLOCK, IS A FALSE STORY
Since the movie came out, Michael began to have problems with his supposed false parentslargely because disagreed with how the film approached his life.
However, the reasons why the story that Bullock starred in is now considered false is because unlike the film, in real life his parents would not have adopted him, but would have simply become his legal guardians.
And it is that the documents signed by the Touhy and Oher in 2004 say that Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, now both 63 years old, “they have all the powers to act on your behalf” and what to Oher “You will not be allowed to enter into any contract or be bound without the direct approval of your guardians”.
To this we must add that on the tape they make Michael look like an unintelligent teenager, something that Oher himself flatly denies.
