The German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim made history in our country by being the first in its industry to start export operations from the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). Everything was generated thanks to the displacement of more than 470 thousand units of medication from its Human Health and Animal Health units. In addition, it was also the first of all industries to carry out an import from this space.
First medicines sent and received from the new Mexican airport
The first 16,000 units of the finished product were shipped to China on March 9. While on the 11th of the same month a total of 456,750 pieces arrived in Mexico for the manufacture of its main oral antidiabetics. It is expected that the final destination will be the Mexican and United States markets.

In addition, supplies and drugs are imported from 42 other nations, making it one of the five pharmaceutical companies with the largest number of operations of this type in Mexico.
“We started with the transfer of approximately 30% of our foreign trade operations and we hope to conclude the process in the following months in line with the presidential decree published last February. It is a pride to be the first pharmaceutical company to start operations at AIFA and the objective is to help ease the volume of operations at the Mexico City International Airport”.
For his part, Erik Meade, who is CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Mexico, said he was proud to participate in the first export and import operation for one of his most important clients such as Boehringer Ingelheim.
Vaccine delivery during the pandemic
He added that he has extensive experience with the Pharmaceutical Industry and gave the first year of the pandemic as an example. During that time DHL Global Forwarding moved 200 million vaccines to Mexico where the commitment to quality, operability and high levels of efficiency was demonstrated.
While Rafael Montalvo, who works as the customs agent responsible for the project, highlighted that it was a true privilege to participate in this first export and import. He said he was very happy because it is the formal start of operations of this facility.
For its part, it should be remembered that Boehringer Ingelheim is the only pharmaceutical company that has the three certifications established by the World Customs Organizationthe European Commission and Customs Border Protection. All of them attest to the security of their supply chain processes, which allows them to carry out export operations to the most important markets on the five continents.
