Barbosa da Silva Jr. maintained that Mexico has made great progress in terms of primary care, disease surveillance and risk factors. However, he suggested streamlining processes and strengthening response capacity.
Work carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic
The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Ruy López Ridaura, pointed out that the InDRE plays a national and international strategic role to confront health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, López Ridaura indicated that in the health emergency due to COVID-19, Our country worked hand in hand with the regional advisor in Public Health Laboratories and Health Emergencies of the Pan American and World Health Organizations (PAHO/WHO) in Mexico, Jean Marc Gabastou, in an effort of coordination and joint action that contributed to improve emergency response.
He highlighted that a priority issue for the government of Mexico is the implementation of the SNSP, which is part of the transformation of the health system in the country, for whose materialization Mexico has the support of PAHO.
Regarding the 84-year history of InDRE, the director of Services and Technical Support of the institute, Lucía Hernández Rivas, explained that this institute offers reliable and timely public health diagnostic services.
In addition to training human resources, the InDRE evaluates the technical competence of the Reference Laboratory Network, carries out specialized research and promotes technological development to contribute to more informed decision-making in public health, all of which is materialized in the results of the work of the National Network of Public Health Laboratories (RNLSP).
The director of Diagnosis and Reference of the InDRE, Irma López Martínez, pointed out that Mexico has collaborated with other nations to strengthen the Virological surveillance for dengue, zika and chikungunyawhich reaffirms its vocation for international cooperation and its commitment to coordinated work with organizations such as PAHO/WHO.
