Tim Cook recently asserted that he will not be at Apple for another 10 years. With this, speculation about its future has brought to the table a new product that could be the last project under Cook’s charge: augmented reality glasses.
For Mark Gurman from Bloomberg Cook’s last major product category is most likely going to have big efforts in AR / VR with Apple hardware. With this, the company could also launch a viewer, like the ones that Facebook continues to market today, at some point in 2022 or later in the future.
The truth is that many companies see this technology as the next step for digital users, so it would not be surprising if one of the most important technology companies in the world turned to see it and create an innovative device.
Apple would already have a first version
It seems that this is getting closer to becoming a reality, as information from The Information points out that a prototype already exists, as the company would have completed the work last year, so the chip and its physical design are now ready to be tested.
The report notes that two people familiar with the future launch indicated that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, one of Apple’s partners, is manufacturing all three chips for the device, which would be at least a year away from mass production.
The new virtual reality and augmented reality headsets from Apple will work connected wirelessly to a similar device or smartphone for the most advanced functions, and under a concept similar to the first versions of the Apple Watch, so users will need a iPhone to exploit them to the fullest.
“The headsets are designed to communicate wirelessly with a host device, presumably a phone, computer or tablet, that will handle the most powerful computing required to display augmented, mixed and virtual reality images,” the report reads.
Also, another person in relation to the situation assured that Apple had already finished designing the smart sensor and the screen controller for the headphones, which is “unusually large” since “it is intended to capture high resolution image data from a user’s environment for AR. “
A farewell to Cook
After years of speculation, Cook’s “latest” product as Apple’s leader could finally be close to hitting the market and debuting soon.
In April this year, the CEO of Apple assured from the podcast ‘Sway’ by Kara Swisher, from where he made clear the benefits of Augmented Reality and why the company would be working on it.
“In terms of RA, the promise of RA is that you and I are having a great conversation right now. Arguably it might even be better if we could augment our discussion with graphics or other things that pop up. Your audience would benefit from this too, I think. So when I think about it in different fields, be it healthcare, education, gaming, retail, I already see augmented reality take off in some of these areas. “
Although it did not make clear any launch by the company, the truth is that there is no doubt that Apple has this technology in its sights, as this is an “even greater promise in the future.”
