‘The Avengers’ Marvel They have been in recent years one of the most watched film franchises in the world thanks to their great history. In this case, ‘Thanos’ is considered by many to be the best villain in franchise history and this individual would be based on Götz von Berlichingen, a knight and mercenary who lived in the Middle Ages.

At just 23 years old, he lost an arm in a battle to defend the Bavarian city of Landshut. At that time and given the few advances that existed in medicine, it was expected that the great warrior would die due to gangrenous wounds. Against all odds he was able to survive.
His battle times seemed to end until he came up with the idea of putting on a metal prosthesis in the shape of a hand which helped him to continue fighting until he was 64 years old. This great warrior would serve as inspiration for the character of Thanos and the ‘Berserk’ manga.
This book created by Kentaro Miura would recreate the character in the most exact way possible since its protagonist ‘Guts’ is a great warrior who loses an arm in battle and despite that continues to fight. According to many of its readers, this Japanese novel would be classified as one of the best in history due to its great plot and characters.
Götz von Berlichingen’s story is one of the most iconic and would not only have inspired these characters. Numerous novels have also been written due to the large number of anecdotes that he was able to offer the world. Also, his subsequent survival due to the loss of a limb aroused the interest of doctors who could not give an explanation for this event.
Over time this type of prosthesis has been updated in order to be able to use it more easily.
