The German brand Bosch is known worldwide for its multifaceted character. Despite not being a manufacturer as such, it is a company that is closely linked to the world of two wheels, both in the case of motorcycles and electric bicycles.
Bosch has been related to the world of eBike for 10 years, acting as the creator of motors, batteries, management software and safety elements like ABS. To celebrate this figure, he has created the eBike Design Vision bicycle, an exercise in which he tries to capture the future trend of the electric bicycle market.
This will be the eBike of the immediate future
Bosch wanted to present a bicycle concept that is recognizable to celebrate its 10 years in the sector and has not been carried away by the airs of freedom of the designers and the eBike Design Vision, although futuristic in its forms, is not excessively disruptive. Bosch eBike Systems CEO Claus Fleischer made it known. “Our goal in developing the eBike Design Vision is to show what is already possible today in terms of integrating functional design and to investigate where the future will take us.”
The model integrates all the solutions that the German brand has in its catalog for eBikes. It mounts a carbon fiber frame in white that also houses the battery and wiring, which makes the design in view of the bicycle more minimalist. This hiding the battery is something common in electric scooters but it is difficult to see in the case of bicycles since manufacturers usually opt for its external placement.
Contrary to what one may think, integrating elements within the frame is something that is more complex than it seems a priori and requires a deep engineering study of the materials that make up the frame of the bicycle. In its favor is the aesthetic section and the protection of elements that are delicate against inclement weather and sports use.
Another novelty of the eBike Design Vision is the integration of the digital display on the bicycle handlebar without the need for any type of accessory. It is a trend that is also hot in the world of motorcycles and is here to stay. The color screens with connectivity to the smartphone will be the stars of the coming years while the analog indicators will be seen as something of the past.
Bosch ABS, also on electric bikes
During Bosch’s 10 years of presence in the world of eBikes, the product has evolved a lot and this has been thanks to engineering development. Electric bikes are now capable of reaching respectable speeds, and just as they speed up safely, they must also be able to slow down without a hitch.
Bosch has spent many years assembling ABS systems on motorcycles and that knowledge has also landed him in the field of electric bicycles. It is a system that is currently on the market but is not too popular since it is exclusively assembled by the most premium products.
In the eBike Design Vision, Bosch has presented a placement of the entire ABS system on the front of the bicycle. It has created an opaque module that includes the digital display, the computer that controls the anti-lock braking system and the LED front lighting. In addition, it also serves as a luggage rack.
