Considering the plethora of heroes, villains, and the tragic and exciting stories each represents during battle, it’s no wonder Marvel fans have their favorites for a variety of reasons. In the past we have seen Vision, Captain Marvel, Thor, Spider-Man in fascinating cosplays that keep the best of their essence… and thus we could mention practically all the characters that have been part of the franchise for many years and that have dazzled more than one in the great conventions.
Of course, Cyclops, who represents the archetypal hero in popular culture, who fought for peace and equality, is a member and founder of the X-Men; therefore, he could not be missing from this list of amazing costumes made by his fans, since he is practically one of the pioneers of the franchise. The mutant first appeared in the 1963 The X-Men comic (by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby) wearing a blue and yellow outfit that distinguished him in his long career against enemies. In fact, this combination that was so popular in the 90s has returned with this cosplay that reflects one of the best facets of the character and brings it to real life.
Here it is worth clarifying that this version of Cyclops, with a rather peculiar blue diving suit, yellow gloves, boots, visor and a kind of underwear on the suit, had its own style that evolved over the years. Despite its popularity, Cyclops’ aesthetics have seen their respective updates. For example, in the 90s the blue tones of the fabric were highlighted, a part of the head was uncovered to show an impressive head of hair and, of course, his body also looked considerably more toned as time passed, resulting in very worked and showy muscles.
The cosplay that takes up the esteem of the Cyclops of the 90s
Things changed a bit when in the live-action versions of some of the key members of the X-Men there were some adaptations from the comics, to appear in the world box office in 2000. The bright suits in which each of them were known gave the impression of being a little more “off”. In the same way as The Matrix, a year before, Cyclops appeared in a black horn outfit, in keeping with the fashion of the time. Although, as is logical, in the future Cyclops would adopt a somewhat more traditional appearance, detaching him from the initial image of him in the Marvel comics.
Secondly, the 1990s was widely known for its costume quirks, since it was considered a time that took to the extreme the range of colors available, the musculature and the arsenal of firearms that the heroes possessed. But a Cyclops cosplay, shared by an Instagram user, called chrstphr_b, has basically taken these very eccentric elements of the mutant costume in this era and made them look very unique. To tell the truth, the Cyclops look almost out of the comics was so successful at London Comic-Con thanks to a realism achieved by a morphsuit that chrstphr_b attributes to supergeek designs.
In case you don’t know what a “morphsuits” is, it is a spandex suit that covers the feet to the head; This gives an apparent muscular shape to whoever wears it, in addition to faithfully recreating the proportions of the bodies of the most iconic heroes of the franchise.
As you can see, the colors of the cosplay are some of the most striking aspects. But in reality, the cosplayer’s attitude also helped make some of the fans feel like Scott Summers had really stepped out of the original comic to attend a convention. Despite a history full of ups and downs, the leader of the X-Men became one of the main references of the 90swhile fighting to save humanity and other companions.
Although he was once seen in a black and red Dark Phoenix costume after becoming a villain, there is nothing better than remembering him in his prime with this elaborate and realistic cosplay.
