In the absence of creating new IPs, something not as easy as it seems, many companies have opted to recover classic franchises that they had neglected to revive them in the form of reboot, remake or remastering. For example, last week we saw the highly anticipated return of the Silent Hill series with a remake of Silent Hill 2, among other releases. According to the latest rumors, Square Enix would also be working on recovering one of its classic PS1 licenses.
At the moment there is not much to talk about, but a recent leak points to the return of Parasite Evethe horror game by Hironobu Sakaguchi, father of Final Fantasy, which it was released for PS1 in 1998. The following year it received a sequel, but we had to wait until 2010 to enjoy the third installment of the series on PSP, albeit under another name, The 3rd Birthday, since the Japanese company did not want to renew the main brand.
Square Enix Renews Parasite Eve Brand
As we can read in GematsuSquare Enix registered the trademark “Symbiogenesis” Last October 14 and, although it does not include relevant information about what it is about, it could indicate his quarrel with Parasite Eve for the very definition of the term. Symbiogenesis means in scientific jargon “two organisms separate to form a single new organism“, which has been part of the plot of Parasite Eve.
Of course, it could refer to something else that we don’t know about yet, but being a Square Enix license, some people are inclined to think that it could be the return of Parasite Eve either in the form of a reboot or remake for PlayStation 5. Nor would it be very surprising seeing the good relationship between both companies recently.
We will have to wait for an official announcement from Square Enix to see if the Parasite Eve series is really back. Of course, it would be great news for fans of the horror genre who, in a matter of months, will receive games of the stature of The Callisto Protocol, the remake of Dead Space or the remake of Resident Evil 4 who shared a new gameplay just a few days ago.
