Today, and thanks to the senior editor of The Verge, Tom Warrenwe have gotten a first look at the new Xbox interface that Microsoft plans to launch in 2023. Among the highlights we have been able to see that the number of top cards has been reduced from 7 to 6 and that this area is now purely dedicated to games and applications.
On the other hand, the xbox game pass app will have a visual aspect more similar to that of the Netflix platform and has also shown that we can pin as a thumbtack our favorite games and applications. However, these changes have provoked some criticism, and not entirely favorable comments within the green community, and even some redesign proposals.
What we’d like to see in the new Xbox interface
Although Microsoft’s intention is to offer a new Xbox interface that is more functional for everyone, the truth is that still pretty chaotic and there are some things that are still missing. It is clear that “it never rains to everyone’s liking” and that “by asking that it not stay”, but there are improvements that are truly common sense and that could well be added, such as:
- Remove the damn ads. Once and forever. Because nobody wants her. Players already pay for hardware, software and subscription services. Microsoft does not need to sell us anything or promote anything that does not have to do with the Xbox brand itself.
- Remove top icons to be able to enjoy the backgrounds of the menu, whether they are dynamic or not. As they are currently developing, these continue to cover the arts, thus frustrating the possibility of seeing our favorite designs.
- Greater customization. Sometimes all you want is to turn on the console and have your games appear to start playing. Without navigating through sections or delving into the interface. Microsoft would do well to offer us more options.
- Direct access to screenshots. A more direct management of our captures would facilitate and encourage their use, instead of making us navigate more than desired to find the section.
- Cleaner and more dynamic interface. It would be interesting to see if Xbox stops cluttering the menu with so many crammed icons, or at least allows us to reduce the size or remove them altogether. From what we’ve seen so far, the interface still feels very cluttered.
In short: a user interface with a home screen that is easy on the eyes and that focuses on the things that are important to the player.
The new Xbox interface that Microsoft is preparing for 2023 continues currently in testing phase. We hope that the company listens to the requests and feedback of the players to improve for the benefit of all.
