In an interview with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs), The actress revealed the following:
“The first time I read the Barbie script my reaction was ‘Oh! This is so good. Too bad it will never see the light of day, because they’ll never let us make this movie.’. But they did.”

These statements add to what the actor Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings) said about the script last December to Vanity Fair:
“It’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read. I think it will surprise a lot of people because I think a lot of people get cynical when they see Mattel or Barbie. The first thing I thought after reading it was: how the hell did they get Mattel to approve this? Because this is not the kind of movie corporate overlords sign up for.”.
