During the investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority of the United Kingdom, CMA for its acronym in English, it has been pointed out that the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft will affect Sony at various levels. Here it has been mentioned that the arrival of games of Call of Duty to Xbox Game Pass would be counterproductive for PlayStation. Nevertheless, a new document has revealed that this will not happen within the next few years.
As you may remember, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, previously mentioned that he intends to leave all contracts between Activision and PlayStation intact prior to purchase. Now, a new document provided in the CMA investigation has revealed that one of these agreements states that Call of Duty games cannot come to Xbox Game Pass, or other such service, for “several years.” This was what was said:
“The agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony includes restrictions on Activision Blizzard’s ability to place Call of Duty titles on Game Pass for several years.”
Let’s remember that throughout the PS4 generation, Sony and Activision had several contracts with the focus of providing exclusive content on these consoles, something that even still stands with Modern Warfare II. For its part, the CMA still does not provide an official response to this purchase.
Remember, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on October 28. On related topics, this game will require your phone number. Similarly, here you can see the new trailer for the game.
Editor’s note:
Considering Xbox Game Pass is the company’s focus right now, it sounds strange that one of the biggest video game series isn’t available here. When the purchase of Bethesda was announced, games like DOOM Eternal will soon be available through this medium. It’s a shame this doesn’t happen with Activision ownership.
