A fan of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with a lot of talent and knowledge of technology, has managed to replicate the iconic Sheikah tablet of the game. This functional work of art is one of many pieces that have appeared on online gaming forums, especially the beloved Zelda that has countless recreations from its fans.
The mysterious and mystical piece of technology known as the Sheikah tablet is an invaluable tool for players embarking on their journey through Breath of the Wild; It serves as a complex diary / GPS / map system, as well as a catalyst for magical spells that Link can use both in combat and to solve the game’s many puzzles. The Sheikah tablet has a similar look to a modern tablet, leading some fans to believe that it was originally envisioned as a representation of the Wii U remote before Breath of the Wild began development for the Nintendo Switch. Regardless, the mechanics and aesthetics of the Sheikah tablet are inseparable from Breath of the Wild’s identity, and it may even have inspired a similar device in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
A fan calling himself Raytrus has been able to capture almost perfectly the image of the Sheikah tablet with a life-size model. In a series of photos posted to reddit, Raytrus shows off his recreation, which appears to be made from some kind of craft foam. Raytrus has managed to faithfully recreate the numerous esoteric markings and symbols on the device, as well as a practical left hand grip. However, the best part of the build is the integration of an Android mobile device, which adds to the sense of authenticity.
While fans can’t use this creation to unleash devastating magical spells like in Breath of the Wild, it’s still a sight for anyone interested in Nintendo’s seminal 2017 open-world adventure. The build would be perfect for cosplayers, already that the inclusion of the smartphone allows a degree of interactivity that is not present in many other accessories. Of course, it helps that the replica looks like its in-game counterpart, even without the mobile device.
This will undoubtedly inspire some creative fans to create their own replicas of iconic Breath of the Wild items. Whether it’s other versions of the Sheikah tablet or suits like the Ancient Armor, there are likely to be some impressive new creations just around the corner. Hopefully Breath of the Wild 2 provides even more material for fans who want to create 3D art.
