After 23 years, the video game of “Californication”, a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has been released and you can get it totally free.
In the year of 1999, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released their seventh studio album, entitled Californication; the album that brought them commercial success thanks to singles like “Around the World”, “Scar Tissue”, “Other Side” and “Californication”.
Precisely, “Californication” was one of the songs most celebrated by its fans, but also by the gamer community, since the official video clip was, in fact, a video game in which the protagonists were the four members of the band.
Beyond the impact generated by the album and that song in particular, for many there was a need to get that video game in which the Red Hot Chili Peppers appeared on the screen.
And it is that, in addition, it emerged at a time when 3D video games were a great novelty and the video clip of “Californication”, in some way, reminded the Play Station games, such as Metal Gear Solid, among others. .
Now, the developer Miquel Camps Orteza has released it in a version for Windows and macOS, a blow to the nostalgia of those who became fans of the band thanks to “Californication”, but also for those who lived through the 2000’s.
In the “Californication” video game, each of the characters (which are the four members of Red Hot Chili Peppers) have to go through various obstacles, “walking” through scenarios that range from large cities, snow-covered mountains, aquatic landscapes , among others, the same ones that we can see in the official video clip of the song.
As in all the group’s albums, the state of California also comes to light in the video game, either with the Walk of Fame in Hollywood or the Golden Gate in San Francisco. As if this were not enough, the game has the option to play the song while the user is playing.
Notably the developer has released it for free for both Windows and macOSstating that he originally intended to make some challenges based on the official “Californication” video clip, but ended up developing the full game.
It has seven levels and is one of those shots of nostalgia that gamers like so much, because, in some way, it takes them back to those years when the Play Station and the most sophisticated consoles began to gain ground.
Californication, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ seventh album, was released in 1999, an album that, according to Rolling Stone magazine, is one of the 500 best albums of all time and, without a doubt, one of the most successful albums of the last 30 years.
