Gameplay footage of the upcoming Need for Speed mobile game has been leaked ahead of its official announcement. The video obtained seems to show three high-end cars driving through a large open world map that shows races in day and night settings.
This is not the first game NFS coming to mobile devices. EA already released a free-to-play version, Need for Speed: No Limits, on Android and iOS devices back in 2015. Although the game is still getting updates, it looks like EA is giving the next mobile entry in the franchise a complete makeover.
The short video posted on the subreddit of need for speed by user Clxbsport supposedly comes from a recent test of the current iOS version of the game. The 45 second footage shows gameplay of three cars – the McLaren F1, Lamborghini Aventador SVJR and Gallardo – racing across the Palm City map in NFS Heat. The clip also shows day and night comparisons, with the latter keeping with Heat’s style of a city dressed in vibrant neon lights.
Without an official announcement from EA, details about the game’s story mode are currently unclear and, in the video, it can be seen that there are no police officers either. The information provided along with the video seems to indicate that the new Need for Speed Mobile It will run on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 and will need the latest smartphones to run it.
It is believed that the new NFS Mobile is being developed by Tencent-owned studios TiMi, as job listings for the game appeared earlier in the year. TiMi has already developed games like Call of Duty Mobile and Pokémon Unite, so he has experience bringing big franchises to the mobile market. Although with the possibility of Tencent developing the game, fans fear that the latest installment will follow the divisive free-to-play model that No Limits implemented.
