In recent days, news broke of an important discovery under the sea of a treasure truly incredible and valued at millions of dollars. The discovery was made in the area of a submerged city in Egypt and the relics obtained date back thousands of years. The archaeological work took place in the submerged city of Thonis Heraclion and the most incredible thing is that they remain intact from those years.
The archaeological work was carried out by the team led by the Frenchman Franck Goddio, who made other discoveries and was in charge of carrying out this investigation, located especially at the site of a temple dedicated to the god Amun, in the ancient city of Thonis Heraclion of Egypt. In dialogue with the EFE site, the secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, provided more information about the discovery and provided a very relevant piece of information: “The objects were imported from Greece. In addition, there were remains of buildings supported by wooden beams dating back to the 5th century BC.”
On the other hand, the archaeological team’s investigation was carried out in the southern canal of the city where large blocks of buildings collapsed during a cataclysmic event dating back to the 2nd century BC and are under the sea. According to the information provided by the specialists, it was the temple of the god Amun, where all the pharaohs went to receive all the titles of power as universal kings, so the presence of treasures as jewelry was very common.
These objects were all buried beneath the bottom of the mar and managed to find treasures belonging to the temple, such as silver ritual instruments, gold jewelry and fragile alabaster containers for perfumes or ointments. Furthermore, it bears witness to the richness of this sanctuary and the piety of the ancient inhabitants. The project archaeologist was happy to have been behind this find.
Finally, according to the work carried out jointly by Godido’s team and the Department of Underwater Archeology of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, they revealed underground structures that were still supported by large wooden posts and beams and that their state of Conservation was really amazing. But, it was not the only thing that was found, since there was also a Greek sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite that had treasures like ceramics and silver. These remains are located seven kilometers off the coast of Egypt.
