The intensity of the third wave of Covid-19 in Mexico continues to grow. The vaccination campaign is progressing in an orderly manner and has served to decrease the mortality rate by up to 30 percent. Although, as was warned from the beginning, the biological does not prevent contagions but rather the development of serious pictures of the disease. The reality is that in recent weeks there has been a worrying outbreak that could cause a saturation in hospitals.
In this sense, one of the differences with respect to the past is that now a large part of the population has resumed their daily activities. More and more people have returned to face-to-face work and in the case of parents they require someone to take care of their children.
The solution is the nurseries of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) that were closed for almost a year but have already reopened. Although to do so, it was first necessary for all workers to receive the vaccine and ensure all prevention and hygiene measures.
First outbreak recorded in a nursery
Despite all the above, the first Covid-19 outbreak has already occurred in a facility. It is the 001 nursery located in Lázaro Cárdenas Michoacán. So far, four infections have been confirmed, although it is feared that there may be more.
According to what was published by The universal it is known that one of the cases is a local worker and the other three are kids. With respect to the first one, he already had the complete immunization scheme but was infected anyway.
While now there are conflicting versions regarding the opinion of parents and the IMSS. The former have shown their complaint by ensuring that the established safety and hygiene measures were never followed in the nursery. The annoyance lies in the fact that there was no constant hand washing or the temperature of workers and minors was taken when they arrived.
On the other hand, Social Security has emphasized that all the protocols established by the Ministry of Health (SSa) were followed. While adding that all confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been mild or moderate.
Now the rest of the staff and children have already been tested to identify if there are more infected people.
For now, the nursery has already been closed and will remain so for at least a week. In the event that there are no more cases, it is expected that it could be reopened on the eighth day but now with stricter control.
Is it time to resume face-to-face classes?
While what happened has generated serious doubts regarding whether it is convenient to return to face-to-face classes in all schools in the country. According to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the new course will begin at the end of August and has emphasized that all schools must open. Although as you can see, there is a high risk for both students and teachers.
