This Monday a judge in Delaware delayed at the last minute the deposition of Elon Musk and the CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal. The businessman was to make his first statement this week in the face of his trial to resolve the refusal to continue with the purchase of Twitter.
The new presentations will be on October 6 and 7, less than two weeks before the official start date of the lawsuit.
Musk tried to back out of his offer to acquire the social media company, citing Twitter’s inability to provide accurate data on how many accounts on the platform are bots and spam.
The Tesla CEO then challenged Parag Agrawal to a “public debate” about the “percentage of bots.”
Why are Twitter and Elon Musk going to trial?
Twitter is seeking to force the billionaire to complete its $44 billion offer to buy the social media company. The two sides are set to meet in court in mid-October, though Musk is still waiting for the court to finalize the purchase contract.
The trial will be led by Judge Kathaleen McCormick, who has been upset by Musk’s lack of seriousness about the case with her comments on Twitter.
The court ordered Twitter to produce documentation from Kayvon Beykpour, a former consumer products manager, who compiled the spam report Musk received. This document caused the world’s richest man to retract the purchase agreement first announced in April.
Earlier in September, Musk again changed his pitch about the possible Twitter purchase, saying that given the right conditions, the deal could go ahead.
“If Twitter simply provides its method of sampling 100 accounts and how they are confirmed to be real, the deal should continue on the original terms,” Musk wrote.
