We already know that E3 2022 has been cancelled, but that doesn’t mean the video game industry isn’t going to have all sorts of reveals and special events this summer. In fact, Game Awards presenter Geoff Keighley is bringing back Summer Game Fest for developers and publishers to showcase their upcoming games and make big announcements.
Geoff Keighley has confirmed today that the Summer Game Fest 2022 will take place on Thursday June 9 and will be screened in select IMAX theaters for “total immersion.” Not only that, but The Game Awards 2022 has also been confirmed to air in IMAX this December. Players will still be able to watch both events from the comfort of their homes, but those who want a more impressive presentation will be able to watch them in IMAX theaters.
The video that accompanies the ad for the Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards includes a video presentation of several games, but fans should not think too much about it. Some of the games shown in the video are Elden Ring and Gotham Knights, but that doesn’t mean that neither of these games will appear at either event.
That said, one has to imagine that Elden Ring fans will pay close attention to the Summer Game Fest of this year. It has been constantly rumored that a DLC for Elden Ring is being planned, and fans believe they have found evidence of it in the game itself. Elden Ring has unused coliseums in certain places in its open world, and some fans have theorized that they could be part of a future expansion.
Since the Elden Ring gameplay reveal took place at last year’s Summer Game Fest and the game is being used to promote the event’s IMAX premiere, there’s a chance a DLC could be revealed. However, this is nothing more than speculation at this point, and fans had better keep their expectations in check.
