Over the last few months there has been a severe complaint from parents of children with cancer to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). Everything has its origin in the medicine shortage that minors require for their treatment. This inconvenience has been notified on several occasions and although the authorities promise that it will not be repeated, to date there is no definitive solution.
So that it is no longer repeated, the IMSS released a series of new actions aimed to the support of pediatric cancer patients. One of them is the training of the nursing staff of the General Hospital of the Zone with Family Medicine (HGZ / MF) No. 1 in San Luis Potosí. The goal is to provide quality, warm and timely care to children with cancer.
News to care for children with cancer
During the fifty-third meeting, Óscar Reyes Miguel, coordinator of Digital Services and Information for Health and Administration, reported that within the efforts of the digital application for pediatric cancer patients, during the last week progress was made in the advertising campaign of the Chatbot OncoIMSS .
In a virtual session, he explained that this material will be located in different medical units where pediatric cancer patients are treated, in order to provide attention on its use and objective.
He also commented that they are working on the dissemination on social networks of the Institute about the use of the OncoIMSS Chatbot and the application for the 140-Bis License from the IMSS Digital app, the latter to grant a Labor License to parents of children with cancer and can give Accompaniment of their children during their cancer treatment.
He stated that for the following week the pilot test of the Blood Bank appointment schedule at the La Raza and Siglo XXI National Medical Centers (CMN) is expected to begin. In addition, the development of the user module that serves in the management of the same system and the new platform that has been developed continues.
Regarding the registry, Reyes Miguel indicated that 124 people joined in the last week, for a total of 5,323 cancer patients, of which 45 percent are pediatric and 55 percent are adults who receive care in 51 hospitals, 14 Units High Specialty Doctors (UMAE) and 37 Second Level.
For their part, Dr. Beatriz Maldonado Almaraz, coordinator of High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE), and Dr. Enrique López Aguilar, National Oncology coordinator, presented a training strategy aimed at the HGZ / MF nursing staff. 1 in San Luis Potosí.
They explained that the hospital has a State Reference Center for the Care of Boys and Girls with Cancer (ONCOCREAN), where it has been determined to reinforce the epidemiological surveillance program of infections associated with health care, in the Health Care Unit. Intensive Care, pathological nursery and hospitalization.
In addition, they stated that practical training will continue for nursing staff and doctors for the specialized management of vascular accesses and catheters in simulation centers, training in nursing care will be expanded in children with cancer, whose program is designed by the Technical Coordination of Nursing.
