Of all the enemies that we can find in the saga, without a doubt the Tyrant are the most iconic of all resident Evil. Since they appeared in Resident Evil (1996), they have been closely linked to the saga and Capcom has not stopped counting on them in main games, spin-offs, series and movies and any other medium. The Tyrant are BOWs (Bio Organic Weapons, bioorganic weapons) created by the Umbrella Corporation to be used for military purposes. The Tyrant Project arose between 1996 and 1999 in the North American subsidiary of Umbrella Corporation, the result of combining the T-Virus to experimental subjects.
These enemies were especially important in the events leading up to and concurrent with the collapse of Raccoon City and in total. there were 12 Tyrants that the corporation released in Raccon Citysowed chaos throughout the city, although we are going to especially highlight the role of 6 of them.
These are the 6 Resident Evil Tyrants that appear in Raccoon City in detail:
6.- Tyrant T-103 (Resident Evil 2)
The T-103 Tyrant, also known as Mr. X, was the first Tyrant created for mass production and distribution. This model improved on its predecessors, the T-001 (Resident Evil 0) and T-002 (Resident Evil), but improving its metabolism and cell regeneration, as well as its intelligence. Unlike the previous model, the T-103 is designed to obey orders and have great physical resistance. However, they can also mutate in case of receiving brutal attacks, transforming into those known as Super Tyrants.
Specially designed to take down specific targets and as a bodyguard, in total there are 6 T-103s that were launched in Raccoon City into two groups: the first dedicated to recovering the G-Virus sample that Sherry Birkin possessed and to finish off the survivors of the Department of Raccoon City Police and the second to annihilate the Delta Team of the North American Army to, incidentally, eliminate all traces that link the Umbrella Corporation with the T-Virus. Since we have only met one of the 6 Tyrants that were sent, it would be a pleasant surprise if Capcom will bring them back in a new game set in the collapse of Raccoon City.
5.- Tyrant R (Resident Evil Outbreak 2)
BOW from Resident Evil Outbreak 2, this Tyrant goes into action on October 1, 1998, the same day that the destruction of Raccoon City occurs. This variant of the T-103 is the result of combining this prototype with cybernetic elements, being especially characterized by its intelligence and its defensive role in Umbrella facilities.
Despite his cybernetic implants, he has a more human appearance, which allows him to camouflage himself better. By mutating into Super Tyrant, his body is covered in rocks and the T-Virus is activated in all of his genes, offering greater protection.
After facing the survivors a first time, he reappears in the shattered streets of Raccoon City, where he is sucked into the creature Nyx. However, this is not the end of him, since it is Ada Wong who defeats him in his new phase, to end up being definitively devoured by the raccoon city explosion.

4.- Thanatos (Resident Evil Outbreak)
Of the 6 Tyrant from Resident Evil that appear to us in Raccoon City, Thanatos is one of the most interesting. Unlike the other Tyrant models, Thanatos is a unique experimental subject created by Umbrella Corporation scientist Greg Mueller. To bring it to life, Mueller used the T-102 Tyrant data and T-103 model, although focusing the Thanatos on combat. Although this Tyrant model offers very similar physical strength to the standard models, it also has more weaknesses: electricity and the exposure of its heart, making it its weak point, as with the first two Tyrant models.
Despite his rare appearance in the saga, Thanatos is quite interesting. Created by the scientist Mueller, he decides to activate it and release it to finish off the UBCS unit sent to kill him. This mission, led by Nikolai Zanoviev, ends in failure and that is when Thanatos decides to go after the Outbreak survivors, ending up destroyed by them in the streets of raccoon city.
3.- Parasitized Tyrant (Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City)
East Tyrant It is the result of combining model T-103 with the Nemesis beta parasite (NE-β), appearing in the series as the final boss of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. After the US Government Special Services unit Echo Six is ordered to take down Umbrella’s labs, the team is confronted by a T-103 model. However, despite believing he has defeated it, this subject mutates with the NE-β parasite, resulting in a Tyrant Much more resistant than the previous ones.
As with the rest of the Tyrant, after taking enough damage, this model transforms into Super Tyrant. In this phase, the parasite part occupies more space and the shell covers the subject’s weak point. In addition, during combat it hides underground and is capable of summoning zombies, making it a very difficult enemy to defeat. Finally, the Echo Six unit manages to finish him off.
2.- Tyrant C (Resident Evil Outbreak 2)

Resident Evil Outbreak took it upon himself to show us that Umbrella Corporation could offer much more than what we had known to date and the Tyrant C is a new proof of it. As with the Thanatos in the first installment of the spin-off, the Tyrant C is a unique experimental subject created once the T-103 project is completed, taking it as a model. East new Tyrant is very similar to the T-103 model, although it has horns and a purple coat. Despite being more flexible and stronger than its base model, it does not have the same resistance as this one.
Unlike the rest of the ranking, this Tyrant only appears in the Showdown 3 minigame of Resident Evil Outbreak 2, so we have not been able to enjoy its full potential in the campaign. So it wouldn’t be a bad idea if Capcom decided to give it another chance in a new title set in Raccoon City.
1.- Nemesis T-Type (Resident Evil 3)
definitive BOW and, without a doubt, the most important of the 6 Resident Evil Tyrants that appear in Raccoon CityNemesis-T Type is the ultimate creation found in Raccoon City in the events of Resident Evil 3. Nemesis is the product of combining the T-103 with the parasite Nemesis Alpha (NE-α Type), behaving very similarly to The Plagues from Resident Evil 4.
This creature is born as a consequence of the events of Resident Evil. The destruction of the Arklay labs by the STARS Alpha and Bravo Units highlighted the need to equip Umbrella with stronger BOWs, as well as create a being specifically designed to eliminate the surviving STARS. That is why, in the chaos of Raccoon Citywhile the Tyrant They are in charge of eliminating all traces and witnesses of the atrocities of the Umbrella Corporation and its Virus-T, Nemesis has the sole function of ending the STARS that are in the city.
Physiology-wise, Nemesis proves to be the ultimate BOW. Physically improves the Tyrant in everything: he is faster, stronger, more resistant and shows total mastery of any type of weapon. Also, according to Umbrella Corporation records, Nemesis shows awareness of himself and his mission from the beginning; a reasoning capacity that the other arms of the pharmaceutical company do not have. Something that we can verify in a document of Resident Evil 3 (2020), in which it is stated that Nemesis comes to “play with his prey”, referring to Jill Valentine. Also, in the remake Nemesis is capable of transforming common zombies, with the NE-Alpha parasite.
Finally, we cannot forget that Nemesis can take on three different forms and the last one is irresistible to any common weapon. So Nemesis is without a doubt the most dangerous Tyrant that we can find in Raccoon City and the most perfect BOW created by the Umbrella Corporation.
