It’s official! Netflix gave the green light to the development of an anime adaptation of Scott pilgrim, produced by the Universal Content Productions (UCP) division of Universal Studios. And that’s not all! The original cast of the film Scott Pilgrim vs. the ex of the girl of his dreams (2010) will return to lend his voice in the English version to the characters of the animated series by studio Science SARU.
“Fortunately, the cast of Scott Pilgrim it became a very close family and lifelong friendships were forged,” Edgar Wright, director of the original film, told Tudum. “To this day, there is still a group email with the entire cast, which has been running since 2010. I was happy to be able to reach out to everyone with the news that we had finally found a way to continue the adventure. Seeing (and hearing) everyone return to their roles has been a real treat.”
That means Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers), Ellen Wong (Knives Chau), Brie Larson (“Envy” Adams), Kieran Culkin (Wallace Wells), Anna Kendrick (Stacey Pilgrim), Alison Pill (Kim Pine), Mark Webber (Stephen Stills), Johnny Simmons (Neil Nordegraf) and Aubrey Plaza (Julie Powers); as well as evil exes: Satya Bhabha (Matthew Patel), Chris Evans (Lucas Lee), Brandon Routh (Todd Ingram), Mae Whitman (Roxy Richter) and Jason Schwartzman (Gideon Graves).
Additionally, the anime Scott Pilgrim will also present original songs by the band Anamanaguchi, who already worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game.

Bryan Lee O’Malley, author of the graphic novels of Scott Pilgrimwill act as showrunnerwriter and executive producer of the anime, along with BenDavid Grabinski (Are You Afraid of the Dark?).
“Everyone is putting their heart and soul into this and we’re having a lot of fun doing it,” adds O’Malley. “It `s hilarious. it’s emotional. It’s visually stunning. The action scenes will blow your mind. And there may be some surprises along the way.”
Animation will be done by Science SARU. The studio founded by director Masaaki Yuasa and producer Eunyoung Choi has developed series like Devilman Crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! either The Heike Story; and the movies Night Is Short, Walk on Girl (2017), Ride Your Wave (2019) and inu-oh (2022). The direction will be carried out by the Spanish Abel Góngora, responsible for the short film “TO-B1” for Star Wars: Visionswhile Eunyoung Choi will serve as producer.
The main architects of Scott Pilgrim vs. the ex of the girl of his dreams Also credited as executive producers on the series are director/co-writer Edgar Wright, and producing partner Nira Park; co-writer Michael Bacall; plus producers Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff and Adam Seigel.
“Over the years, fans have asked if there would be a sequel to the movie or some other type of sequel,” says Wright. “I knew that a sequel in live action it was unlikely, but usually I’d prefer to suggest that maybe an anime adaptation was an interesting way to go. And then lo and behold, one day Netflix reached out to ask about this exact idea. But even better, our brilliant creator Bryan Lee O’Malley had a much more adventurous idea than simply adapting the original books.”
The story follows Scott Pilgrim, a 23-year-old bass player from Toronto who struggles to get and keep a steady job; avoid being kicked out of his apartment and survive peculiar run-ins with the seven evil exes of the new girl in town he has a crush on, Ramona Flowers.
