The Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) reported that there have been a total of 32 agency officials who have been removed from their positions, due to acts of corruption.
In a morning conference held this Tuesday from the National Palace, the head of Cofepris, Alejandro Svarch Pérez explained that, together with the Naval Intelligence Unit of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), the mechanisms and networks of corruption that operated were discovered.
He clarified that the removed officials range from heads of administrative units to judges and verifiers of the institution. Among the irregularities detected are discretionary management of business applications, surveillance based on extortion and the operation of coyotes.
“32 officials were removed, who only wanted to enrich themselves at the expense of the Government. They were replaced by personnel who passed confidence tests in the Naval Intelligence Unit”, he mentioned.
“We clean the stairs from top to bottom. These officials were replaced by people who passed strict tests and examinations of confidence in the naval intelligence unit, we placed personnel assigned to the Secretary of the Navy in strategic positions and together we created the Intelligence Center against Sanitary Risks with the aim of providing a national vision to our health agency,” he added.
Svarch Pérez affirmed that in Cofepris there were three cellars of corruption: Discretionary management of business requests, extortion and direct operation of corruption.
The owner of Cofepris pointed out that the mission was to banish corruption and guarantee that this was not an impediment to access medical treatment, food and health services and quality.
In a year we can say: mission accomplished, Mr. President, corruption is no longer the rule, but the exception,” he explained.
Illegal practices carried out in Mexico
No person can ask for money in exchange for favors or formalities, and it is remembered that these managers have no influence or power to streamline processes internally. This authority warns that, in many cases, false managers do not even enter the information before Cofepris, resulting in non-existent processes.
Cofepris’ position against these irregular practices is clear and open, so any manager who claims to have access or influence is lying; In addition, public servants do not follow up on specific procedures. All procedures are carried out directly through the Cofepris Comprehensive Service Center, appointments are free of charge and all applicable rates are described in the official table available at this link.
Any additional payment to these is irregular. People allegedly victims of these hoaxes are invited to send an alert through the platform Alert Citizens or report to the Comprehensive System of Citizen Complaints (SIDEC), of the Ministry of Public Administration (SFP), through this page.
No person internal or external to Cofepris can guarantee approvals or permits, since these are examined in a technical or scientific process by chains of federal decision-makers before a resolution is issued. Users are called upon not to fall for deception or accept offers of procedures in exchange for money, since these are scams where they will lose resources and time.
