The blockchain platform, Naria, which is dedicated to innovation that interconnects social entities with the food industry and society, managed to raise more than 16,000 euros for the Zaragoza Food Bank with the aim of dealing with the lack of food, helping 3,000 people through the creation of more than 300 wallet cards.
Currently, with the Narnia system, the average donation has increased to 22 euros, which is equivalent to 12,000 kg of food and approximately 9,356 donations. And in sum, according to the press release, 59 kg of CO2 have been saved into the atmosphere.
Usually, with one (1) collection device (Totem), between 8 thousand and 12 thousand euros are collected during a month, however, thanks to Naria and her collection system, the amount of money has doubled in a time frame of 6 days.
“Food aid is traced and certified under a blockchain platform that verifies the transaction, ensuring that the donation reaches the entity. The donations are transformed into wallet cards that contain the economic value and provide the beneficiaries with the opportunity to go to the supermarket to buy (fresh, perishable food and basic hygiene) “, explained Naria in the press release.
The application of blockchain technology in wallet cards allows tracking when and where food has been purchased, as well as knowing what food people have purchasedin order to certify, through the traceability system, the correct use of cash cards and provide transparency, security and food dignity “through the digitization of food aid.”
“(…) thanks to the help of entities like Naria we can help more easily, with controlled wallet cards, being able to reach a greater number of people who need it and knowing more about them, their needs and the use of the funds for ranges of perishable foods and with greater nutritional value” said the Inmaculada Felices of the Food Bank of Zaragoza.
Naria started this initiative in 2020, which is why it has managed to raise more than 400,000 euros and has helped more than 78,000 people to this day. In other words, more than 522,000 kg of food and more than 234,000 rations have been granted during these two years.
