This weekend, locals and strangers were surprised with an image of the Pope Francisco where the supreme pontiff is seen wearing a gigantic white coat and Nike tennis shoes.
However, while the photo looks very authentic, it is actually an image generated through artificial intelligence (AI), using the Midjourney app.
The photograph was posted on the artificial intelligence’s official Reddit page under the name of “Pope Drip” either “The fashion of the Pope”.
not so real
At first the image went viral on social networks because various users believed it was real. However, other tweeters noted that the “photo” showed the typical errors of images created by artificial intelligence.
As collected by the site infobaeSome of these “glitches in the Matrix” were:
- The Supreme Pontiff’s glasses are truly shapeless and blend into his face.
- The Pope’s crucifix only connects on one side of his neck.
- The zipper of the jacket or coat has two sections that do not coincide with each other.
- As in almost all AI images, the hand shows the most obvious errors: the fingers are not well defined, the “Fisherman’s ring” is on the wrong finger, and his drink, presumably a mate, is not well defined.
Of course, the internet being what it is, the image of the leader of Catholicism did not take long to go viral and with it, the related memes.
In some they celebrated the “flow” in the style of Pope Francis, while others said the image was an advertisement for the Pontiff’s new collaboration with producer BZRP.
There is no doubt that the image was correct enough to fool some users that it was real.
What do you think is the future of art created by artificial intelligences?
