A report by an American non-profit organization called AARP that defends the interests and needs of retired senior citizens shows that the video games has left the elderly aside.
In his analysis, reviewed by the website of xatakahighlight that the current titles focus on the new generations, despite the fact that older adults -people over 50 for this study- are not taken into account for video games.
“We are left behind. We are not considered,” they said in the report. They refer to the fact that the difficulty and challenge levels of these new titles are not adequate for the efficiency and mental agility of a 50-year-old person, always speaking in terms of average people.
In the United States, older adults make up a quarter of the gaming community. While in Germany they are almost a third.
The report also highlights the discomforts experienced by older gamers in video games. The small print font makes it difficult to read, leading to the suggestion that games should offer the option to adjust the font size.
In addition, video game controllers can be problematic due to possible hand injuries or conditions such as arthritis, which make it difficult to grip and operate the controllers.
Despite these challenges, the AARP believes that video games can be beneficial for seniors. Gaming can relieve stress and provide a mental challenge, as well as offer an opportunity for older people to become familiar with technology.
