Pope Francis, like many famous people around the world, have been the focus of images generated by artificial intelligence. Being the highest representative of the Catholic Church, he has been put in situations totally contrary to what his figure represents.
We have seen him dancing, with sunglasses or a very cool jacket in the style of any young man in winter. Is that misinformation? No, but the fidelity and accuracy of the images can lead to a malicious image being unleashed.
It is for this element that the Holy See urges the world’s governments to review machine learning mechanisms, to establish immediate regulation before it is too late.
The church day, which takes place once a year in the Vatican, has as its motto “Artificial intelligence and wisdom of the heart: for fully human communication”, for 2024, a clear call to attention to the advancement of technology.
By wanting to prioritize humans over machines, the church urges people to avoid “contributing to the spread of a system of misinformation,” according to a review. Telam.
“The evolution of artificial intelligence systems makes it increasingly natural to communicate through and with machines, so that it is increasingly difficult to distinguish calculation from thought, the language produced by a machine from that generated by human beings,” says the Vatican.
It does not ask that it be eliminated, simply that the direction in which this technology is taken changes in favor of humanity.
“It is essential to guide artificial intelligence and algorithms, so that everyone is formed into a responsible awareness of the use and development of these new forms of communication that are added to those of social networks and the Internet,” they mentioned.
