Amazon is in deep trouble. And it is not just about the open front that it has with the New World players who claim that the MMO has fried their graphics card, but another even more serious matter: the massive theft of Twitch information, which affects both the “guts” of the platform and the personal data of its users. In the middle of the storm, as if that weren’t enough, there is evidence of a launcher called to compete with Steam.
Its code name is Vapor, in a “humorous” declaration of intent: he came to stand up to Valve in his own market. The fathers of Half-Life have been ingrained in PC gamer culture since 2004, but mogul Jeff Bezos has in his possession the real Infinity Stones – the cloud support conglomerate Amazon Web Services, and a platform as popular as It’s Twitch — and it looks like he had plans to conjure up its power.
The idea, of course, would be to integrate tools to watch broadcasts, buy video games that those content creators were playing, and enjoy them without going through another app. Xbox has a similar system integrated into its ecosystem, and there was even a time when Discord had tried its luck with an internal library that is currently hidden in the application. Now, what is the real probability that Vapor will reach our hands?
Grabbed Vapor, the codename for Amazon’s Steam competitor. Seems to intigrate most of Twitch’s features as well as a bunch of game specific support like fortnite and pubg.
Also includes some Unity code for a game called Vapeworld, which I assume is some sort of VR chat thing. pic.twitter.com/4KeeEOspyQ– Sinoc (@ Sinoc229) October 6, 2021
Well, we just don’t know. Considering that this information comes from a third party, it is entirely possible that it is a forgery, or that it is archaeological remains of a long-extinct plan. While the official announcements, for now we will limit ourselves to speculating about it and recommend to our readers that change your passwords from Twitch, because regardless of what happens with Vapor, the information leak is more than confirmed.
