Update: Huawei has shared its official position on the situation. The official statement below in the original text.
Before the imminent end of the third extension of Huawei on February 16, the US government has granted another temporary permit to the company, adding four. However, there is an important detail to keep in mind on this occasion.
The Commerce Department has made official the fourth extension to Huawei, but now the permit is for “only” 45 days, that is, a month and a half. This detail is important since it is half the time of the other permits, which were each for 90 days, that is, 3 months.
The government organization does not offer explanations about the reason for this. However, what it does mention is that this new extension is necessary to “allow telecommunications providers, especially those in rural areas of the United States, to continue operating temporarily and safely while finding an alternative to Huawei for their future operation. “
The fourth US permit for Huawei ends on April 1, date after which it is not specified what will happen to the situation between the American nation and Huawei. We have contacted the company to know its position on the matter, as soon as we have an answer we will update.
Regarding the situation, Huawei Mexico says:
Extending the Temporary General License will not, in any way, have a substantial impact on Huawei’s businesses. This decision does not change the fact that Huawei continues to receive unfair treatment.
We have long argued that the decision of the US Department of Commerce. UU. adding Huawei to the Entity List has caused more damage to the United States than to Huawei. This situation has generated significant economic damage to US companies with which Huawei does business. It has interrupted collaboration and undermined the mutual trust on which the global supply chain depends. We call on the US government. to end this unfair treatment and remove Huawei from the List of Entities
Huawei has said that, in case of the lifting of the commercial veto, it would use Google apps and services again. However, while awaiting the resolution of the situation, the possibility of special permission is also expected for the company to work with Google, as happened with Microsoft.
However, despite all this happening behind the scenes and at a slow pace, Huawei works on the development of its P40 family, which exists the possibility of seeing it arrive without Google services, as happened with the Mate 30. We will surely have more news soon.
