The development process of the new generation of the Maserati GranTurismo has been transferred to Northern Europe. A prototype hunted in broad daylight wearing a lesser amount of camouflage. The removal of camouflage is key to discovering new features of the exterior design that the expected Maserati model will wear.
Maserati continues to work at full capacity on the development of the new generation of one of its most important models. The generational change of the Maserati GranTurismo is already on the horizon. The prototypes of the new GranTurismo are subjected to extreme weather conditions. Low temperatures, ice, snow… All this allows us to know first-hand how the engine, electronics and, ultimately, the vehicle in general, respond in an environment of this type. In addition, and if the fact that the new generation of the GranTurismo is “cold” is not enough, we must add the loss of camouflage that has occurred.
It is on the front where the removal of camouflage is most evident. This allows discovering the shape of the headlights, the grille with all its vertical slats and what position the brand’s logo will occupy. In the same way it is worth emphasizing the air intakes and the bumper in general.
Something similar happens at the rear. The rear lights have been practically exposed and, as can be seen, they will be physically joined by a chrome trim that will enhance the feeling of width. A very popular design element today. The four exhaust outlets are perfectly integrated with the rear diffuser.
The V6 engine of the new Maserati GranTurismo 2022
The new generation of the GranTurismo will be underpinned by Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform. The mechanical offer will be made up of a selection of gasoline engines. There will be 2.0-liter four-cylinder blocks as well as a powerful V6 Nettune engine. The same engine used by the Maserati MC20 which, let’s remember, reaches 630 hp.
The new GranTurismo will also be able to boast of being the first Maserati car to adopt a mechanical 100% electrical. A variant that will receive the trade name Folgore.
When will it hit the market? The coming-out of the new GranTurismo is set for the first half of 2022. Shortly after, it will start its commercial journey in Europe.
