Lullabies are not something new: they have existed for millennia and come from different cultures. They are very popular because there is nothing better to sleep and reassure babies, even in the womb.
WHY DO BABIES LOVE NURSERY RHYMES SO MUCH?
Babies begin to develop their senses from the uterus, both the physical and the limbic system (that is, the one that controls emotions). A baby is able to hear and recognize the voices of his parents from the 20th week of pregnancy, and can also identify musical or environmental sounds, which relax him.
Now, imagine if you combine both things: a melodious lullaby sung by the voice of his parents, not only means relaxation, they also reflect love and protection for the little one.
Nursery rhymes not only serve to reassure babies, they are also recognition and strengthening of the bond between him and his parents. If a child suddenly feels fear, something hurts or they feel strange in a setting, a lullaby sung by their parents makes them calm and feel safe.
The effects of nursery rhymes, also called lullabies, are due to their calm, smooth, and monotonous rhythm, much like the sound of blood flow and Mom’s heartbeat. According to studies, babies’ heart rate and breathing decrease while listening to lullabies, helping them fall asleep.
A lullaby should be almost a whisper if babies are under 6 months old because their eardrums are very sensitive. If you need him to sleep, gradually lower your voice until there is only silence. This will gradually accustom him to sleep without the need for a lullaby.
It will also be a pleasure for you to see how he sleeps after singing very softly. Enjoy this moment very much.
