This public transport system is one of the vast network of services offered by CDMX. Its lines connect with other means of transport: Metro, Metrobús, Light Rail, Cablebús and passenger transport.
The history of the CDMX Trolleybus
This means of passenger transport is part of the Electric Transportation Service of Mexico City.
The Trolleybus was inaugurated on March 9, 1957which is why it has offered its service to residents of the capital and tourists for just over 65 years.
Previously, the most widely used public transport was trams. However, due to the poor condition of the vehicle fleet, the Electric Transport Service (STE)in 1947.
It is important to point out that the STE renewed part of the transport system with the purchase of several trolleybuses. The first test service circulated through the streets of Villalonguón and Sullivan.
Subsequently, the first “commercial route” of the trolleybuses arose, which ran from Tacuba to Calzada de Tlalpan. Over time it was expanded towards the Glorieta de Balbuena.
After the great acceptance by the population, the Government of the then federal District gave the STE a new route and fleet that would circulate through Tetepilco and Azcapotzalco.
The Trolleybus was widely accepted because it presented advantages over the old trams, as it turned out to be quieter and with greater mobility.
By the year 1969, this means of transport made a great dumbbell with the construction and expansion of the Metro.
the present
Over the years, the Trolleybuses suffered great wear and tear due to the use of their services. It was for 2019 that the Government of Mexico City invested around 7.24 million pesos to remodel the service.
Currently, 10 trolleybus lines operate: nine of them are called Zero Emissions Corridor and the rest is known as elevated trolleybus.
